WORKPLACE VIOLENCE

THREAT ASSESSMENT

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) defines workplace violence as “any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the work site” (OSHA, 2022).

WPV includes behavior such as verbal abuse, cursing, bullying, stalking, threats, mobbing, sexual harassment, suicide, and homicide. OSHA estimates that nearly 2 million or more US workers are victims of workplace violence each year, however, due to underreporting the actual number is difficult to estimate and likely much higher.  Despite a number of new policies, increased training, and prevention strategies, workplace violence continues to increase. A survey conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) showed that half of workplaces with a human resource (HR) practitioner experienced some level of violence. According to their data, workplace violence occurrences are up from 36% including physical assaults, harassment, threats, and homicides (SHRM, 2020). Dr. Haymore provides workplace violence training, threat assessments, emergency action planning, and corporate self-defense lessons to ensure your organization is prepared for any incident that may occur.
